As part of the new miniature footprint, the Power 1 FireFly™ Optical Cables Samtec manufactures FireFly active optical cables (AOCs) which provide a mid-board mounted optical interconnect solution for chip-to-chip, board-to-board or system-to-system applications, at data rates up to 28 Gbps and link distances up to 100 m. FireFly optical modules are currently available in two configurations. Samtec ECUE FireFly Low-Profile Micro Flyover Assemblies feature 28Gbps performance, a 3.18mm (0.125") bend radius, and a wide variety of End 2 options. The Eye Speed® cables are offered in 36AWG twinax, 34AWG twinax, and 34AWG ultra-low skew twinax in lengths of 300mm, 500mm, and 1000mm. FireFly™ is based on a high performance interconnect system which allows the use of low-cost copper cables or high performance active optical engines. Samtec copper, equalized copper, and optical cable systems provide the flexibility to achieve higher data rates and/or greater distance needs while simplifying board design and enhancing Samtec FireFly™ Rugged Micro Flyover® Sockets provide high-speed performance of up to 28Gbps per lane.
